Quizmaster Sam Wickens returned this Tuesday night for what would be the final installment of pub trivia at Trinity. After almost three years of quizzin' (and 368 blog posts!) at Trinity the management have decided to call a postponement of Quizmaster's duties at their pub.

In the end, four teams gathered to compete for first and second place prizes.

Topping the charts this week was Ed Sedar Fan Club with 41 points, they took the $30 bar tab with delight as they added it to their collection of winnings, and the final winners at Trinity...

Second place on the night, taking the $20 bar tab, was Vodka Tartletts who were just short of a tie for first place by one point...

They finished with 40 points. Good effort though people!

As a result of the rather abrupt cancellation of quiz night, the ongoing quiz league will also be canceled as ordered by the management at Trinity.

Quizmaster apologizes to those teams involved, but as you can imagine our business can not operate without the partnership of pub venues. We hope all quizzers understand, and that the decision was made by Trinity's management.

But, they have not ruled out a return of quiz night to Trinity in the near future, so watch this space. Otherwise please join us at another Quizmaster venue to get your trivia fix!

Word is that McCarthy's Pub across the street may be teaming up with us as Quizmaster Kevin B. tends bar there on weekends. Watch out for details on this in the coming days...

D. B. Cooper is the name popularly used to refer to an unidentified man who hijacked a Boeing 727 aircraft in the airspace between Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington, USA on November 24, 1971. He extorted $200,000 in ransom and parachuted to an uncertain fate. Despite an extensive manhunt and an exhaustive (and ongoing) FBI investigation, the perpetrator has never been located or positively identified. To date, the case remains the only unsolved airline hijacking in American aviation history.

The suspect purchased his airline ticket under the alias Dan Cooper, but due to a news media miscommunication, he became known in popular lore as "D. B. Cooper." Hundreds of leads have been pursued in the ensuing years, but no conclusive evidence has ever surfaced regarding Cooper's true identity or whereabouts, and the bulk of the ransom money has never been recovered. Numerous theories, of widely-varying plausibility, have been proposed by experts, reporters, and amateur enthusiasts.

While FBI investigators have insisted from the beginning that Cooper probably did not survive his risky jump, the agency maintains an active case file—which has grown to more than 60 volumes—and continues to solicit creative ideas and new leads from the public.

It was a busy night at Trinity this week as we had an arrangement of egg heads arrive for our 9pm show, ready to unleash their drinking and thinking tekkers...

And quizzers were also in for a real (or not so real) treat in the bonus round on the night...

Yep, quizzers got a real treat in the useless knowledge category as they had to state whether the milk wagons were real or fake?

And yes, the answers were as follows: a) Real, b) Fake, c) Fake, d) Real!

But there was a clear winner on the night, with 41 points it was Ed Sedar Fan Club....

They took a $30 bar tab for their achievements!

Our other prize on the night was 2nd place, two teams had tied which lead to a rather theatrical sudden death...

The question was: In which year did German traveler Peter Minuit purchase the island of Manhattan from Native Americans for goods to the value of 60 Dutch Guilders?

Travis loves Kool Aid answered: 1672
Team Team answered: 1712

The correct answer was 1626! This meant that Travis Loves Kool Aid * NO 3-Way took second place with 39 points!...

They were rewarded with a $20 bar tab for their quizzical success!

This left Team Team rather unimpressed...

Scoleciphobia is the fear of worms. The sight of a worm, or anything that looks like a worm, may cause someone with this phobia to have extreme anxiety or even panic attacks.

Individuals with this disorder typically recognize that their fear is excessive and/or unreasonable. However, in spite of this, one may lead a restricted lifestyle and find the fear debilitating. Those with Specific Phobias have been known to go to great lengths to avoid certain activities due to the possibility of coming into contact with the feared stimuli. This fear can range from a mild fear response in the presence of real worms to panic-like symptoms induced by a picture of worms.

It appears that family members of a person diagnosed with Specific Phobia have an increased risk of developing the disorder. Particularly, first-degree biological relatives of person with Specific Phobias, Animal type, are more likely than the general population to have animal phobias.

Vodka Tartletts smash it again!

Another installment of trivia at Trinity this week once again featured $2 Vodka bombs, $2 old fashioned drinks and $3 Lite Pints, to the delight of the onlooking crowd this Tuesday night!

It was Vodka Tartletts that took first place this week (two weeks running now), with a crushing 45 points...

They were back in full force with their half dozen quizzers and were just UNSTOPPABLE! Will anyone take over the Tartletts?! They now sit top of the league table too!

Ed Sedar Fan Club came in second on the night, with a decent haul of 39 points!

Good job people!

And newcomers The Helmet joined us for the trivia contest, finishing fourth with 32 points in the end...

The only team to dominate our panhandle question, a full six points to them! Thanks for playing guys!

mother in medical history

Lina Medina (born September 27, 1933, in Ticrapo, Huancavelica Region, Peru) is the youngest confirmed mother in medical history, giving birth at the age of five years, seven months and 17 days. She now lives in Lima, Peru.

Medina was brought to a hospital by her parents at the age of five years due to increasing abdominal size. She was originally thought to have had a tumor, but her doctors determined she was in her seventh month of pregnancy.

A month and a half after the original diagnosis, on May 14, 1939, Medina gave birth to a boy by a caesarean section necessitated by her small pelvis. The surgery was performed by Dr. Lozada and Dr. Busalleu, with Dr. Colareta providing anaesthesia. Her case was reported in detail by Dr. Edmundo Escomel in the medical journal La Presse Médicale, including the additional details that her menarche had occurred at eight months of age (or 2½ according to a different article) and that she had prominent breast development by the age of four. By age five, her figure displayed pelvic widening and advanced bone maturation. When doctors performed the caesarean to deliver her baby, they found she already had fully mature sexual organs from precocious puberty.

Medina never revealed the father of the child nor the circumstances of her impregnation. Dr. Escomel suggested she might not actually know herself by writing that Medina "couldn't give precise responses". Medina's father was arrested on suspicion of rape and incest, but was later released due to lack of evidence. According to a 1955 article reviewing the case, "Some pointed out there were frequent festivities celebrated by Indians in Andean villages like the one where Lina was born. These often ended up in orgies in which rape was not uncommon. But if this theory were accepted, there still was no explanation of how a five-year-old girl could conceive a child. There hasn't been to this day."

The All Stars Gather at Trinity!

Nine teams gathered at Trinity this week to compete for prizes during our weekly cranium crunching trivia night!

Twenty One brains arrived and the show kicked off at 9pm with an enthused Brewers audience ready to battle it out in six rounds of challenging pub quiz.

Topping the charts this week was Vodka Tartletts with 39 points...

They took the $30 bar tab for first place following an array of correct answers on the night!

Second place on the night went to newcomers The Colonial All-Stars with a decent haul of 37 points...

They truly embraced Quizmaster's drink while you think slogan! The trio was rewarded with a $20 bar tab for the valiant efforts and we hope to see them back next week. May be they can make a run in the trivia league which kicked off last week.

The Rat Pack was a group of actors originally centered on Humphrey Bogart. In the mid-1960s it was the name used by the press and the general public to refer to a later variation of the group, after Bogart's death, that called itself "the summit" or "the clan," featuring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop, who appeared together on stage and in films in the early-1960s, including the movie Ocean's 11. Sinatra, Martin and Davis were regarded as the group's lead members.

The name "Rat Pack" was first used to refer to a group of friends in New York. Several explanations have been offered for the famous name over the years. According to one version, the group's original "Den Mother," Lauren Bacall, after seeing her husband (Bogart) and his friends return from a night in Las Vegas, said words to the effect of "You look like a goddamn rat pack." "Rat Pack" may also be a shortened version of "Holmby Hills Rat Pack," a reference to the home of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall which served as a regular hangout.

Visiting members included Errol Flynn, Nat King Cole, Mickey Rooney and Cesar Romero.

According to Stephen Bogart, the original members of the Holmby Hills Rat Pack were Sinatra (pack master), Judy Garland (first vice-president), Bacall (den mother), Sid Luft (cage master), Bogart (rat in charge of public relations), Swifty Lazar (recording secretary and treasurer), Nathaniel Benchley (historian), David Niven, Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, George Cukor, Cary Grant, Rex Harrison, and Jimmy Van Heusen.^[4]^[5] In his autobiography The Moon's a Balloon, Niven confirms that the Rat Pack originally included him but not Sammy Davis Jr. or Dean Martin.

This week at Trinity we were in for a treat as seven teams gathered for another installment of challenging pub trivia!

The atmosphere was buzzing as teams poured in for our Tuesday night contest. We even had a return from one of our favorites The Original "Trivia Newton John" Let's get quizzical MOTHAFUCKA who after first playing trivia many months ago, inspired the "Let's get quizzical" chant!

Topping the charts this time round was Ed Sedar Fan Club with an immense 43 points...

They took the $30 first place bar tab as their reward.

Following up in second place was Geefeater Bibson! who finished with 40 points...

The two lads who split off from Vodka Tartletts for the night managed to seal a prize and defeat the girl power of their former team for one night only! Good effort boys!

Man power! A new league kicked off on the evening and will run for an anticipated 8-week spell! Keep a consistent team name if you want the QM to be able to track your scores throughout!

A Nazi super-child!

Max Zorin is a fictional character and the main antagonist in the James Bond film A View to a Kill. He was portrayed by Academy Award winner Christopher Walken. The role was initially offered to David Bowie, who turned it down, saying, "I didn't want to spend five months watching my stunt double fall off cliffs."

Zorin was born in Dresden around the end of the Second World War, after which Dresden became part of East Germany. He later moved to France and became a leading French businessman, operating on the microchip market. However, it is revealed later in the movie that he was the product of Nazi medical experimentation during World War II, in which pregnant women were injected with massive quantities of steroids in an attempt to create "super-children." Most of the pregnancies failed. The few surviving babies grew to become extraordinarily intelligent—but also psychopathic.

After the war, Dr. Hans Glaub (alias Dr. Carl Mortner), the German scientist who conducted the experiments, was spirited away by the Soviet Union, where he continued his experiments with steroids. It is strongly implied that the young Zorin was raised by Mortner, who was one of Zorin's closest allies in the movie, and explicitly stated that Zorin was trained by and long-affiliated with the KGB.

Zorin is extremely sadistic and displays a near-total lack of loyalty to his own men, as shown when he oversaw the execution of a Soviet spy who attempted to sabotage his oil well operations and when he personally massacred hundreds of his own mine workers to ensure the success of his own plans. Despite his long-standing and intimate relationship with his right hand woman May Day, he willingly sacrifices her for the sake of his plans, although this betrayal would backfire horribly on him later on.

Big finish as league concludes at Trinity!

Six teams gathered at Trinity this week to battle it out for four separate prizes to reward our patrons for their intense thinking (while drinking, that is).

We had first and second place prizes for the quiz on the night, as well as an extra prize each for first and second place for our league contenders...

A banterful crowd of Brewers fans certainly livened things up in the latter half of the quiz, providing some decent banter for the assembled audience at the Irish pub!

It was newcomers The Honey Badgers who took the $30 first place tab on the night, who smashed it with a score of 52 out of 60 possible points on the night.

Well done guys!

Second place was decided after an intense sudden death between Vodka Tartletts and Timid Thor, who both tied on 50 points after six rounds of cranium crunching pub quiz.

Sudden death posed the following question: In which year did H.G. Wells publish his science fiction novel The War of the Worlds?

Timid Thor said: 1922

Vodka Tartletts said: 1958

The answer was 1898! Following the revelation of the sudden death answer, a gargantuan roar raced out from the lungs of the boys that made up Timid Thor, who were very pleased with the result!

They took the $20 bar tab for second place! Nice Superman shirt mate!

Elsewhere, as the scores from the quiz rolled in from the final installment of the quiz league, a winner and runner up was determined for our other two prizes on the night.

It was Vodka Tartletts who ended up winning the entire league, softening the blow of losing in the sudden death on the night....

They took a $30 bar tab for loyal quiz efforts...

And Ironically, the team that took last place on the night, actually won second place in our league! I...Might...Be...Gay...Soooooooo AKA Team Team took a $20 bar tab as the runner up in league....

Quizmaster believes these two really took our Drink While You Think slogan very seriously this time round...

Nonetheless, they won a prize! Quiz night continues at Trinity next Tuesday night at 9pm. Stop in again for more specials and prizes!

several years by the FBI's Melvin Purvis

John Herbert Dillinger, Jr. (June 22, 1903 – July 22, 1934) was an American gangster and bank-robber in the Depression-era United States. He was charged, but never convicted, with the murder of an East Chicago police officer. Although this was the only kill that is documented to have been by Dillinger's hand, during his bank heists a dozen victims — prison officers, police, federal agents, gangsters and civilians — were killed. His gang robbed two dozen banks and four police stations. Dillinger escaped from jail twice.

In 1933-34, among criminals like Lester Gillis (Baby Face Nelson), Pretty Boy Floyd, and Bonnie and Clyde, Dillinger was the most notorious of all. Media reports were spiced with exaggerated accounts of his bravado and daring. The government demanded federal action and J. Edgar Hoover developed a more sophisticated Federal Bureau of Investigation as a weapon against organized crime and would use Dillinger and his gang as his campaign platform to launch this FBI .

After evading police in four states for almost a year, Dillinger was wounded and returned to his father's home to recover. He returned to Chicago in July 1934 and met his end at the hands of police and federal agents who were informed of his whereabouts by Ana Cumpanas (the owner of the lodge where Dillinger sought refuge at the time). On July 22, the police and Division of Investigation closed in on the Biograph Theater. Federal agents, led by Melvin Purvis, moved to arrest him as he left the theater. He pulled a weapon and attempted to flee but was shot three times and killed.

Christine is a horror novel by Stephen King, published in 1983. It tells the story of a vintage automobile apparently possessed by supernatural forces. Much of the action takes place in and around the fictional town of Libertyville, Pennsylvania. Later that same year, a film adaptation, directed by John Carpenter and starring Keith Gordon, John Stockwell, Alexandra Paul, and Harry Dean Stanton, was released.

In 1978, while driving home from work, high school friends Dennis Guilder and Arnold "Arnie" Cunningham spot a dilapidated 1958 red and white Plymouth Fury sitting in front of a house. Arnie makes Dennis stop so he can examine the car. The owner, Roland D. LeBay, an elderly gentleman wearing a back brace, offers to sell the car (named "Christine") to Arnie for $250. Unable to pay the full amount, Arnie gives LeBay a $25 deposit and agrees to return the next day with the balance.

Arnie and Dennis return the following day, and LeBay invites Arnie into his house to sign the paperwork. While waiting for Arnie, Dennis decides to sit inside Christine, and as he does, he has a vision of the car and the surroundings as they were in 1958 when the car was new. Frightened, Dennis gets out of Christine, and decides that he does not like Arnie's new car.....

Doctor Ivo Robotnik also known by his alias Doctor Eggman is a fictional video game character and the main antagonist of the Sonic the Hedgehog series created by Sega.

Dr. Eggman is a rotund, mad scientist with an IQ of 300 who plans to conquer the world in order to build his Eggman Empire and is the archenemy of Sonic the Hedgehog.

His character designer is Naoto Ōshima, and while he has gone through several large appearance changes throughout the series, his design retains several basic characteristics, such as his egg-shaped body and his large mustache.

Despite his scientific skilled mind, he is horribly immature and often tends to throw temper tantrums, mostly whenever his plans fail. He has appeared in almost every Sonic the Hedgehog game since his first appearance and has appeared in all other Sonic media, including comics, TV series, and a feature film.

In April 1990, Sega commissioned its AM8 R&D department to create a character who would replace Alex Kidd as the company's mascot, as well as compete against Nintendo's flagship character, Mario.

A caricature of Theodore Roosevelt was among the proposed designs, and combined with the idea of an egg-shaped character, it eventually became the basis of the visual design for Dr. Robotnik/Eggman.

Muhammad Anwar Al Sadat (25 December 1918 – 6 October 1981) was the third President of Egypt, serving from 15 October 1970 until his assassination by fundamentalist army officers on 6 October 1981. He was a senior member of the Free Officers group that overthrew the Muhammad Ali Dynasty in the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, and a close confidant of President Gamal Abdel Nasser, whom he succeeded as President in 1970.

In his eleven years as president he changed Egypt's direction, departing from some of the economic and political principles of Nasserism by re-instituting the multi-party system and launching the Infitah.

He led the Yom Kippur War of 1973 against Israel, making him a hero in Egypt and, for a time, throughout the Arab World. Afterwards he engaged in negotiations with Israel, culminating in the Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty. This won him the Nobel Peace Prize but also made him unpopular among some Arabs, resulting in a temporary suspension of Egypt's membership in the Arab League, and eventually his assassination.

Just a spoiler that Quizmaster Cup V, Milwaukee's biggest pub trivia tournament, is coming back to Milwaukee April 17th! Registration opens online Monday April 4th, 2011 at Noon!

It was a fun filled night at Trinity this week with six teams testing their brains in our trivia game!

There were seven teams at Trinity this week as Sam Wickens returned to Trinity for an eventful night!

In first place on the night - and taking the $50 bar tab - was Team Team Bitches. They were delighted following being in second for the past two weeks running...

We also had some international action at the Irish pub with an appearance from some eastern European quiz patrons in the shape of Team Drink Tank NY!

They finished on 31 points in the end.

Power to the foreigners baby!

We also had an absolutely quality team name from Trivia Newton John: Let's get quizzical who returned after a brief hiatus and finished on 26 points in the end!

Oh, a final reminder that Quiz Bowl I is this Sunday, and spots are running low! Register now, and come dressed in your most retro sports gear!...

The quiz kids were out in full force at Trinity this Tuesday as nine teams were involved to compete for ultimate trivial supremacy!

It was a great atmosphere as the quiz got underway, with Team Benson finishing up in 7th on the night! They created a great buzz for everyone in the Irish pub from the get go. They delightfully greeted QM Sam Wickens with "Oi, alright mate!" as he entered the building!

Talking our language people...

And even Couches pull out... but we don't - who ended up finishing fourth - gave us a few laughs as they had a Frenchman amidst their ranks, who was throwing some friendly banter back and forth with our Gallophobic English QM! We guess the Frenchies aren't that bad... :)

But ultimately, it was Threeve who took first place on the night with an impressive haul of 45 points!

Also, we'd like to address the bar tab issue. Trinity, given the somewhat tougher times, has decided to lower it prizes - having only offered one prize of $50 on the night. We know this displeased most teams, who would rather see it split (i.e. $30 for first and $20 for second place).

We're contacting Trinity management as we speak and fully expect them to correct the mistake and offer at least two prizes per week starting next Tuesday again! Apologies to all for the inconvenience!

Was part of the notorious Clanton Gang,
otherwise known simply as "the Cowboys!"

John Peters Ringo (May 3, 1850 – July 13, 1882), better known as Johnny Ringo, was a cowboy who became a legend of the American Old West because of, among other things, his affiliation with the Clanton Gang in the era of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, in Tombstone, Arizona. That group of outlaws was known commonly as "the cowboys" around Tombstone, and Ringo himself was called "the King of the Cowboys." However, beyond verbal confrontations, he took no part in those events.

Despite his fame and notoriety, there are no records that he ever actually had a single classic gunfight, shooting unarmed men not counting. Even his violent death may have been at his own hand.

On July 14, 1882, Johnny Ringo was found dead in the crotch of a large tree in West Turkey Creek Valley, near Chiricahua Peak, with a bullet hole in his right temple and an exit wound at the back of his head. Ringo's revolver, one round expended, was found hanging from a finger of his hand. His body had apparently been there overnight, as a nearby resident had heard a gunshot the day before. His feet were wrapped in pieces of his undershirt. His boots were found tied to the saddle of his horse which was found two miles away. A coroner's inquest officially ruled his death a suicide.

It was an intense quiz night at Trinity this week, eight teams played with a three-way (gigitty) tie final leading to a sudden death finish at the Irish Pub!

Our league champions were The Penis Mightier, who lead for much of the league duration over the past 8 weeks, with a final score of 315! Rusty Sanchez + Dirty Trombones took second in the league with 303 points! Tally ho!

On the night, three teams tied on 62 points following our bonus round of chance (wager round people!), which lead to our sudden death question....

Only suffering five defeats, how many professional bouts did Muhammad Ali fight in?

The Zimmermann Telegram (or Zimmermann Note) was a 1917 diplomatic proposal from the German Empire to Mexico to make war against the United States. The proposal was declined by Mexico, but angered Americans and led in part to a U.S. declaration of war in April.

The message came as a coded telegram dispatched by the Foreign Secretary of the German Empire, Arthur Zimmermann, on January 16, 1917, to the German ambassador in Washington, D.C., Johann von Bernstorff, at the height of World War I.

On January 19, Bernstorff, per Zimmermann's request, forwarded the telegram to the German ambassador in Mexico, Heinrich von Eckardt. The telegram instructed Ambassador Eckardt that if the U.S. appeared likely to enter the war, he was to approach the Mexican Government with a proposal for military alliance.

He was to offer Mexico material aid in the reclamation of territory lost during the Mexican-American War, specifically the American states of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Eckardt was also instructed to urge Mexico to help broker an alliance between Germany and the Japanese Empire.

The Zimmermann Telegram was intercepted and decoded by the British cryptographers of Room 40. The revelation of its contents in the American press on March 1 caused public outrage that contributed to the U.S.'s declaration of war against Germany and its allies on April 6.

Another Tuesday meant another trivia night at Trinity Three Irish Pubs in Milwaukee this week.

And it also meant yet another win for the dominating trivia force known as The Penis Mightier who notched up an impressive 45 point haul from a possible 50...

That was their Charlie's Angels impression.

Err, we think they're missing any angel somewhere?!

There was a tie for second place between The Overdressed Corporate Douchebags and Team Short Bus, the latter becoming a regular challenger during this quiz league.

This lead to an inevitable sudden death round to determine the runners-up position! The definitive question was "The elevator attendant at the Empire State Building, how many stories did Betty Lou Oliver fall in 1945, and survive: a Guinness World record?"

Team Short Bus answered 25 stories, with TOCD just one story higher at 26!

The answer was an astonishing 75 stories! Newcomers The Overdressed Corporate Douchebags took second place in a tight dramatic finish!

Good effort guys!

Trivia continues next week at 9pm, with the current 8-week league scheduled to come to a dramatic end! And although the Penis Mightier have a demanding lead, anything can and WILL happen as a wager bonus round will be sure to spice up the finish!

the first & only president of the CSA

Jefferson Finis Davis (June 3, 1808 – December 6, 1889) was an American statesman and leader of the Confederacy during the American Civil War; serving as the President for its entire history. A West Point graduate, Davis fought in the Mexican-American War as a colonel of a volunteer regiment, and was the United States Secretary of War under President Franklin Pierce. Both before and after his time in the Pierce administration, he served as a U.S. Senator representing the State of Mississippi. As a senator, he argued against secession, but did agree that each state was sovereign and had an unquestionable right to secede from the Union.

On February 9, 1861, after he resigned from the U.S. Senate, Davis was selected provisional President of the Confederate States of America; he was elected without opposition to a six-year term that November. During his presidency, Davis took charge of the Confederate war plans but was unable to find a strategy to stop the larger, more powerful and better organized Union.

His diplomatic efforts failed to gain recognition from any foreign country, and he paid little attention to the collapsing Confederate economy, printing more and more paper money to cover the war's expenses. Historians have criticized Davis for being a much less effective war leader than his Union counterpart Abraham Lincoln, which they attribute to Davis being overbearing, over controlling, and overly meddlesome, as well as being out of touch with public opinion, and lacking support from a political party (the Confederacy had no political parties.)

Eight brave teams ventured out into the cold to make it to Trinity this Tuesday quiz night as QM Sam Wickens meet them on the microphone for some more trivia fun.

And not to be disappointed for leaving their hot cocos and snuggies at home on the night was Rusty Sanchez + The Dirty Trombones, who had an absolutely crushing top score with 47 points!

Although two other teams matched their score on the night, but they did enough to win out in a testing sudden death round, with the question being: A world record for a passenger train, to the nearest mile per hour (mph) what speed did the Shinkansen, (or Japanese bullet train), reach in a test run in 2003?

They were closest with their guess of 270mph, the answer was an astonishing 361mph!

Which went that Porn Parodies, The Legend Of Tea Bagger Vance answer of 230mph was good enough for the runners-up position....

And so that meant, the third team to tie for first, Team Team Bitches, who guessed 220mph, would just miss out on the moolah!...

Coming in third place displeases red heads!

"Bang the Drum All Day" is a 1983 song by Todd Rundgren. The lyrics describe in first person, the singer's drive to "bang the drum all day" to the exclusion of everything else. All the instruments on this track are performed by Rundgren. The song has become popular as an anti-work anthem or anthem of celebration.

The song is used by conservative talk radio host Jim Quinn as his union heads-up theme.

Radio stations WMJI and WDJX in the United States have used this song for their morning programs. 96.5 WKLH, a classic-rock station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, plays the song every Friday at exactly 5 p.m. to signal the start of the weekend. When Las Vegas, Nevada radio station 96.3 KKLZ was a classic rock station, it would play it at 5PM Fridays to ring in the weekend, though their version of the song usually had other sound effects thrown in.

At Trinity this Tuesday night, there may have been a blizzard of epic proportions outside, but on the inside we had six teams playing pub quiz!

Coming up in first place was The Penis Mightier with 46 points out of 50! Even with a man down they dominated for the second week in a row!

We think they're staring into the dark of the night, but don't quote us on that!

Finishing in second place was Team Short Bus with 40 points! They just happened to have Aaron Rodgers come along on play quiz with them this week, in a rather fetching yellow shirt!...

And the QM managed to grab a picture of Team to the mutherfucking team who lulled down in a measly 4th place on the night....

We think they need a Milwaukee Blizzard to wake them up.

Idi Amin
Dictator of Uganda from 1971-79

Idi Amin Dada (c.1925 – 16 August 2003) was a military leader and President of Uganda from 1971 to 1979. Amin joined the British colonial regiment, the King's African Rifles, in 1946, and eventually held the rank of Major General and Commander of the Ugandan Army prior to taking power in the military coup of January 1971, deposing Milton Obote. He later promoted himself to Field Marshal while he was the head of state.

Amin's rule was characterised by human rights abuses, political repression, ethnic persecution, extrajudicial killings, nepotism, corruption and gross economic mismanagement. The number of people killed as a result of his regime is estimated by international observers and human rights groups to range from 100,000 to 500,000. Notable backers of Amin included Muammar al-Gaddafi's Libya, the Soviet Union and East Germany, with early support for his regime coming from the United Kingdom, Israel, and Apartheid-era South Africa.

Dissent within Uganda and Amin's attempt to annex the Kagera province of Tanzania in 1978 led to the Uganda–Tanzania War and the demise of his regime. Amin later fled to exile in Libya and Saudi Arabia, where he died on 16 August 2003.

It was a rather frantic night of pub quizzing at Trinity Three Irish Pubs this Tuesday, as Marquette also took on UConn in a Big East baller match-up.

But it was the match-up of eight trivia teams that Quizmaster Sam Wickens was paying attention to on the night.

And not to disappoint the QM's expectations were The Penis Mightier, who scored a massive 45 points and took the $50 first place prize for the second week running...

Although their illustration skills weren't quite as crafted as their trivia skills. Their team name sketch was somewhat disfigured. A penis, really??...

It looks more like a satanic golf bag!

Anyway, back to the quiz.

Coming up in second place on the night and taking the $25 was Team Short Bus with a cool 42 points....

Well, that's Wisconsin for ya!

And, as mentioned already, there was plenty of action towards the latter part of the night's quiz with an entrance of excitable MU fans, but the show, as ever, went on!

Jay Cutler (born Jason Isaac Cutler August 3, 1973 in Sterling, Massachusetts) is an IFBB professional bodybuilder and the current Mr. Olympia, a title he has won four times.

Cutler started working in his family's concrete construction business, Cutler Bros. Concrete, at the age of 11, and started training when he was 18 years old as a senior at Wachusett Regional High School. He graduated from Quinsigamond Community College in 1993 with a degree in criminal justice with the intent to work as a guard for a maximum security prison. Cutler quickly excelled at the bodybuilding, and took his first overall win in 1993 at the Iron Bodies Invitational.

His first contest was the 1992 Gold's Gym Worcester Bodybuilding Championships, at which he took second place. He won consecutive Arnold Classic titles in 2002, 2003, and 2004, and placed 2nd to Ronnie Coleman in the Mr. Olympia four times before claiming the title in 2006. Cutler won the Olympia for a second consecutive year in 2007, and was poised for a third before Dexter Jackson pulled the upset and took the title in 2008. Jay Cutler became the 3rd Mr.Olympia in history (along with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Franco Columbu) to reclaim the title, and the only Mr. Olympia in history to reclaim the title after having lost, returning on stage, and defeating the reigning champion Dexter Jackson in 2009. In 2010, he went on to win his fourth Olympia title, defeating Phil Heath.

He also shares his name with fellow sportsman and vagina-face Jay Cutler of the Chicago Bears.

It was a frantic not of pub quiz this Tuesday at Trinity Three Irish Pubs in downtown Milwaukee as new Quizmaster Sam Wickens took over the host duties, with former Quizmaster of over 2 years - Christopher Tinker - retiring from the game last week.

And ushering in a new era at Trinity were seven teams enjoying the $2 Old Fashioned, none more so than the night's surprise winners in the form of Team to the Muthafuckin' Team....

Falling just one point behind them in second place were quiz night regulars in the shape and form of The Penis Mightier with 45 points, who especially enjoyed our bearded presidents question....

Although, (somehow!) we had forgotten to include Ulysses Grant in that last of presidents with facial hair....

Shocker! We know!

And there was plenty of action towards the latter part of the night's quiz with an entrance of excitable marquette fans, but the show, as ever, went on!

Although they failed to reach the South Pole,
the crew made it to the southernmost point
ever by man - 88°23', on 9 January 1909.

The British Antarctic Expedition 1907–09, otherwise known as the Nimrod Expedition, was the first of three expeditions to the Antarctic led by Ernest Shackleton. Its main target, among a range of geographical and scientific objectives, was to be first to the South Pole. This was not attained, but the expedition’s southern march reached a farthest south latitude of 88°23′S, just 97.5 nautical miles (180.6 km; 112.2 mi) from the pole. This was by far the longest southern polar journey to that date and a record convergence on either Pole.

A separate group led by Welsh Australian geology professor Edgeworth David reached the estimated location of the South Magnetic Pole, and the expedition also achieved the first ascent of Mount Erebus, Antarctica's second highest volcano.

The expedition lacked governmental or institutional support, and relied on private loans and individual contributions. It was beset by financial problems and its preparations were hurried . Its ship, Nimrod, was less than half of the size of Robert Falcon Scott's 1901–04 expedition ship Discovery, and Shackleton's crew lacked relevant experience. Controversy arose from Shackleton's decision to base the expedition in McMurdo Sound, close to Scott's old headquarters, in contravention of a promise to Scott that he would not do so.

Nevertheless, although the expedition's profile was initially much lower than that of Scott’s six years earlier, its achievements attracted nationwide interest and made a public hero out of Shackleton. The scientific team, which included the future Australian Antarctic Expedition leader Douglas Mawson, carried out extensive geological, zoological and meteorological work. Shackleton’s transport arrangements, based on Manchurian ponies, motor traction, and sled dogs, were innovations which, despite limited success, were later copied by Scott for his ill-fated Terra Nova Expedition.

Tink's Final Quiz at Trinity. League Begins!

It was a very close game this Tuesday night at Trinity Three Irish Pubs, which saw Porn Parodies: Honey I blew Everyone sneak past the 2 favourites to claim the top spot on the night by just one point; this team insists on playing under a different porn parody every week...

On a side note, please take a second to look at how well this team dresses for the quiz (Good work fellas).

They left Rusty Sanchez and the Dirty Trombones and The Penis is Mightier, formerly See You Next Tuesday in the sudden death play off for second place.

Rusty Sanchez and the Dirty Trombones eventually took second place in a very close sudden death round, while the Penis Is Mightier had to settle for third place on the evening.

As hard as it is to say, a great score of 66 from Team Short Bus was only good enough for four place.

A new trivia league also kicked off on the night, set to run for a six week spell, with prizes for first and second place at the end, as well as the usual weekly prizes throughout!

And, we're sad to announce that it was Quizmaster Christopher "Tink" Tinker's last night of hosting at Trinity, as he looks to indulge in new ventures in 2011. He wants to thank all the quizzers that made Trinity such a fun spot on Tuesdays, and being that he's not leaving Milwaukee, something tells us he'll be around from time to time.

The quiz will roll on next week, with Quizmaster Sam Wickens taking the reigns from here on out!

Although there were 9 teams participating at this Tuesday's pub quiz at Trinity, it came down to a story of just three.

Rusty Sanchez and the Dirty Trombones, See You Next Tuesday, and Team Team Bitches, three regular battle axe teams at Trinity, distanced themselves from the chasing pack and were eventually separated by just two points.

In the end, it was Rusty Sanchez and the Dirty Trombones who took top honors with See You Next Tuesday (below) settling for second....

Thank God Paul was there to help the Rusty Sanchez capture victory. (As you can see from the photo, he thinks highly of his general knowledge abilities; standing in front of half of the team)....

On a side note, Quizmaster would like to mention the team of One More Question + One More Drink who took a little persuasion to remain for the entire quiz…You know you loved it!!!.

And a new trivia league, set to run for a duration of six week, will begin next Tuesday, with an additional prize going to the league champs at the end!

It's My Birthday! I'll Quiz if I Want to!

The quiz this Tuesday night at Milwaukee's Trinity Three Irish Pubs turned into a two-team battle at the top, with Team Team and See You Next Tuesday matching each other every step of the way.

Still deadlocked on 43 points at the end, it took a Dr. Seuss sudden death question to separate the teams. The sudden death round saw Team Team emerge victorious by a narrow margin to claim 1st place and the $50 bar tab....

Rusty Sanchez and the Dirty Trombones were kept out of the prizes, managing 39 points on the evening which secured them a third place position.

On a side note, there were a few new faces participating in the fun and games on the night with one team celebrating a birthday; It’s my B.day..Bitch!, who score d 34 points on the evening....

The Wall of Sound is a music production technique for pop and rock music recordings developed by record producer Phil Spector at Gold Star Studios in Los Angeles, California during the early 1960s. Spector, working with audio engineers such as Larry Levine and the session musicians who later became known as The Wrecking Crew, created a dense, layered, and reverberant sound that reproduced well on AM radio and jukeboxes popular in the era. He created this sound by having a number of electric and acoustic guitarists perform the same parts in unison, adding musical arrangements for large groups of musicians up to the size of orchestras, and then recording the sound using an echo chamber.

Spector also produced the Beatles' Academy Award-winning album Let It Be, and the Grammy Award-winning Concert for Bangladesh by former Beatle George Harrison. In 1989, Spector was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a non-performer. The 1965 song "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'", produced and co-written by Spector for The Righteous Brothers, is listed by BMI as the song with the most U.S. airplay in the 20th century. Get Quizzical on Your Birthday! Quiz Continues Next Tuesday

Trivia night at Trinity Three Irish Pub finished with an ironic twist this Tuesday evening, with the teams See you next Tuesday, and C U next Tuesday finishing in first and last place respectively.

It seems that both teams shared a similarity in naming their team, but not in their general knowledge. We guess there's a first time for everything!

However, the real story on the night's event was the fight for second place between Its my birthday and I’ll quiz if I want to....

...and the recent graduates playing as O’Trivia Newton-John..Lets get Quizzical....

Both teams finished tied on 42 points, but in the end, O’Trivia Newton-John..Lets get Quizzical took second place honors after victory in the sudden death round.

We'd like to wish Justin (from the aforementioned team) a happy birthday too!

Once again, regulars Rusty Sanchez and the Dirty Trombones and Team Team put forth solid performances, scoring 40 points on the evening.

Set in "Halloween Town!"

The Nightmare Before Christmas, often promoted as Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, is a 1993 stop motion fantasy film directed by Henry Selick and produced/co-written by Tim Burton. It tells the story of Jack Skellington, a being from "Halloween Town" who opens a portal to "Christmas Town". Danny Elfman wrote the film score and provided the singing voice of Jack, as well as other minor characters. The remaining principal voice cast includes Chris Sarandon, Catherine O'Hara, William Hickey, Ken Page and Glenn Shadix.

The genesis of The Nightmare Before Christmas started with a poem by Tim Burton as a Disney animator in the early-1980s. With the success of Vincent in 1982, Disney started to consider The Nightmare Before Christmas as either a short subject or 30-minute television special. Over the years, Burton's thoughts regularly returned to the project, and in 1990, Burton and Disney made a development deal.

Production started in July 1991 in San Francisco. Walt Disney Pictures decided to release the film under their Touchstone Pictures banner because they thought Nightmare would be "too dark and scary for kids". The Nightmare Before Christmas has been viewed with critical and financial success. Disney has reissued the film annually under their Disney Digital 3-D format since 2006.

League Concludes! Quiz Continues Next Week With Christmas Film Quotes!

It was the quiz league finale at Trinity Three Irish Pubs this Tuesday night, with a number of teams in position to potentially take first place over the eight weeks of play.

Rusty Sanchez and the Dirty Trombones were leading going into the evening’s event…

but the Anal Bum Covers made a run for it taking first place on the night with a great score of 62 points.

Eventually, the latter fell just a couple of points short but made for an entertaining finish in the end, while Fuck em Bucky played the last week with just 2 players which may have cost them a shot at the title.

All in all, it was a great league tournament which involved many teams over the duration. The team that changed their name each week, showed up under the name…Chitty Chitty Gang Bang?...

They fell short on the evening, finishing in fourth place with a great score of 51, and QM Tink tried to exclude Justin (in the background) from the photo, but to no avail in the end!

On a side note, the Ed Sedar Fan Club turned up to take part in the league final under a slightly different name. We'd also like to give a MASSIVE shout out to Team Team Bitches, who took 3rd honors in both the league and the evening's quiz, who having once been the bottom feeders on quiz night, are starting to look like a force at Trinity!

Quiz night will continue throughout the holiday season at Trinity, with a new league beginning fresh in 2011. Watch this space!

Proclaimed by many to have been behind
the first manned ascent in a hot air balloon

Joseph-Michel Montgolfier (26 August 1740 – 26 June 1810) and Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier (6 January 1745 – 2 August 1799) were the inventors of the montgolfière-style hot air balloon, globe aérostatique. The brothers succeeded in launching the first manned ascent, carrying Étienne into the sky.

The brothers decided to make a public demonstration of a balloon in order to establish their claim to its invention. They constructed a globe-shaped balloon of sackcloth with three thin layers of paper inside. The envelope could contain nearly 790 m³ (28,000 cubic feet) of air and weighed 225 kg (500 lb). It was constructed of four pieces (the dome and three lateral bands) and held together by 1,800 buttons. A reinforcing fish net of cord covered the outside of the envelope.

On 4 June 1783, they flew this craft as their first public demonstration at Annonay in front of a group of dignitaries from the Etats particulars. Its flight covered 2 km (1.2 mi), lasted 10 minutes, and had an estimated altitude of 1,600-2,000 m (5,200-6,600 ft). Word of their success quickly reached Paris. Étienne went to the capital to make further demonstrations and to solidify the brothers' claim to the invention of flight.

With the successful demonstration at Versailles, and again in collaboration with Réveillon, Étienne started construction of a 60,000-cubic-foot balloon for the purpose of making flights with humans. The balloon was about seventy-five feet tall and about fifty feet in diameter.

On 21 November 1783, the first free flight by humans was made by Pilâtre. The flight began in the western outskirts of Paris. They flew aloft about 3,000 feet (910 m) above Paris for a distance of nine kilometres. After 25 minutes, the machine landed between the windmills, outside the city ramparts. Enough fuel remained on board at the end of the flight to have allowed the balloon to fly four to five times as far. However, burning embers from the fire were scorching the balloon fabric and had to be daubed out with sponges.

As per usual at Trinity this Tuesday night, the quiz was closely contested with the top five teams separated by just 4 points.

Team Team Bitches eventually took (a surprising) top spot after beating Anal Bum Covers (below) in the sudden death question, since both teams finished on 46 points at the end of regulation play....

Both teams were pushed all the way as Fuck em Bucky scored an impressive 45, which was only good enough for 3rd place. Rusty Sanchez and the Dirty Trombones left feeling a little upset as they could only manage 4th place...

In addition to being mocked on the picture sheet for all to see....

We can thank the Anal Bum Covers, previously known as Suck it Trebek, for that, who later claimed that it was "the best $10 that they ever spent".

Quizmaster would like to make a special mention for Team Walt and Lacey and I prematurely shot my wad, and now I've got a mess on my hands, who scored 36 and 42 respectively with just two team members. Join us next week guys!

George Villiers
The first Duke of Buckingham, the current
royal residence is named for him

Sir George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham KG (28 August 1592 – 23 August 1628) (surname pronounced "villers") was the favourite, claimed by some to be the lover, of King James I of England. Despite a very patchy political and military record he remained at the height of royal favour for the first two years of the reign of Charles I, until he was assassinated. He was one of the most rewarded royal courtiers in all history.

In 1627, Buckingham led another failure: an attempt to aid his new Huguenot allies besieged at La Rochelle in France, by leading the Siege of Saint-Martin-de-Ré (1627). He lost more than 4,000 of a force of 7,000 men. While organising a second campaign in Portsmouth in 1628, he was stabbed to death, on August 23, at the Greyhound Pub; the assassin was John Felton, an army officer who had been wounded in the earlier military adventure. Felton believed he had been passed over for promotion by Buckingham. Felton was hanged in October.

Buckingham was buried in Westminster Abbey. Buckingham's tomb bears a Latin inscription translated as: "The Enigma of the World." The memory of George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham, is held sacred by the Villiers Club, an exclusive dining and debating society at Oxford University.

It was a well contested pub quiz this Tuesday at Trinity Three Irish Pubs in downtown Milwaukee. It saw an almost perfect score of 48 from the Anal Bum Covers which was enough to award them the win and the $50 bar tab.

This score was necessary as the Cotton headed Ninny Muggins (Elf reference - we like!) pushed them all the way achieving a fantastic score of 47, which was just enough to claim 2nd place and the $25 bar tab....

This bar may have 3 pubs but i have 3 nuts were true to their form of playing under a new name every week. Unfortunately that just wasn't enough as they found themselves finishing in 4th place.

On a side note, solid performances toward the league points were put together by Rusty Sanchez and the Dirty Trombones, Fuck em Bucky and Team Team, who all narrowly missed out the evening's prizes.

While the unofficial team name honor was fought out between Panslyvania : The 6th country starting with "pa" and I prematurely blue myself (below)...

Two weeks remain in the trivia league!

Lawrence Richard Walters, nicknamed "Lawnchair Larry" or the "Lawn Chair Pilot", (April 19, 1949 – October 6, 1993) was an American truck driver who took flight on July 2, 1982 in a homemade aircraft. Dubbed Inspiration I, the "flying machine" consisted of an ordinary patio chair with 45 helium-filled weather balloons attached to it. Walters rose to an altitude of over 15,000 feet (4,600 m) and floated from his point of origin in San Pedro, California into controlled airspace near Los Angeles International Airport. His flight was widely reported in many newspapers.

After 45 minutes in the sky, he shot several balloons, and then accidentally dropped his pellet gun overboard. He descended slowly, until the balloons' dangling cables got caught in a power line, causing a blackout in a Long Beach neighborhood for 20 minutes. Walters was able to climb to the ground.

He was immediately arrested by waiting members of the Long Beach Police Department; when asked by a reporter why he had done it, Walters replied, "A man can't just sit around."

Walters was initially fined US$4,000 for violations under U. S. Federal Aviation Regulations, including operating an aircraft within an airport traffic area "without establishing and maintaining two-way communications with the control tower." Walters appealed, and the fine was reduced to US$1,500. Walters commented, "If the FAA was around when the Wright Brothers were testing their aircraft, they would never have been able to make their first flight at Kitty Hawk."

It was a massive quiz last night with over 60 players competing for the bar tab prizes during the Trinity Three Irish Pubs quiz this Tuesday.

The oh-so-nearly team from week to week in the shape and form of Fuck em Bucky put a change to that, emerging victorious with 46 points on the evening.

They were closely followed by the team which has probably played under more team names than any other in the history of Quizmaster. Each one of them as cheeky as the next with I'm not a TSA agent but I'll give you a strip search being their chosen name on the night.

Dead in the water were allowed to remain as one team, since they ONLY brought 8 players this week....

Where is the commitment people!!! :)

Quizmaster would also like to give a mention to the two-person team of Mind the gap...that's what she said who scored an admirable 28 points on the quiz.

And Serenity Now rounded off the trivia crowd on the night...

Article of the Week - Johan Alfred Ander

In 1910 he became the first and only
person in Sweden executed by guillotine
and the last person in the country to
receive the death penalty

Johan Alfred Andersson Ander (October 27, 1873 – November 23, 1910) was a convicted Swedish murderer and the last person to be officially executed in Sweden.

Ander sought a way to find a solution to his money problems, and for weeks he had been seen observing an exchange agency, Gerells Växelkontor in Stockholm. On January 5, 1910, he robbed the agency and beat the clerk, Victoria Hellsten, so severely that she died. He managed to steal 6,000 Swedish kronor in Swedish and foreign notes at the agency of which he spent some before he was caught. Some of the notes in Ander's possession were covered in blood, and this and the murder weapon lead to his being connected to the crime.

During the trial, Ander claimed that he had received the money from a foreign (and unknown) man, whom he had met during his stay at a hotel in Stockholm. He never admitted to the crime, but was sentenced to death by all court instances, and he never appealed to the king to be reprieved (however, an application for clemency was made by his father). Clemency was however not granted by the king, thus making Ander the first person to be executed in Sweden in ten years. He was also the only person in Sweden to have been executed by the guillotine. The execution took place at Långholmen prison in Stockholm on November 23, 1910. The name of the executioner was Albert Gustaf Dahlman, who, thus, became Sweden's last official executioner.

And Just Missing Out on the Prizes...

It was once again a very close contest at Trinity three Irish pubs this Tueday night for pub quiz.

The top five teams were separated by just 3 points, but it was ultimately Rusty Sanchez and the Dirty Trombones that claimed 1st place on the night with a great score of 43. They were closely followed by Fuck em Bucky who edged away from the chasing pack to take 2nd place on the night and $25 bar tab....

It could be argued that one team sealed their own fate by naming themselves And just missing out on the prizes, as they did just that....

Although they finished in 6th position, My Couch pulls out but I don't received the biggest cheer of the night.

On a side note, Quizmaster would like to make a quick mention to those shorthanded teams who put forth a very worthy effort and a solid score. Max.D played with just two, while the ED Sedar fan club demonstrated their dedication by playing as a one man team.

Spicing Up the Cup With a Scary Finish!

WOW! It was an amazing day of ultimate quizzical fun at the Milwaukee Ale House this Sunday November 14th, 2010 , as the venue hosted Quizmaster Cup IV: Milwaukee ultimate bi-annual pub trivia tournament!

As anticipated, the Ale House was filled with Milwaukee's trivia elite... and not-so-elite-but-we-like-to-get-drunk-too teams, all of whom were battling it out for the coveted cup....

And the coveted Quizmaster Cup was looking divine in the stage's limelight...

But as well as the actual Cup there were tons of others prizes up for grabs, including 8 cases (196 bottles) of beer, some cool games, Milwaukee Admiral, Milwaukee Wave and Rep tickets too!

And yes, that is a bobble-head of Fred Berry!

And after all the hype and anticipation, the Quizmaster Cup finally got underway with the fricken-awesome Minute of Music Madness Round; a video round in which teams had to watch the video montage and name as many songs and artists as possible! And, oh, the audio and video did not match!...

And for those who didn't play, the answers were....

So the quiz got underway with the somewhat-massive music madness round, which appeared to please Why is All the Rum Gone? (a question the QMs themselves have been asking for some time now) who scored an impressive 18 from 20 points...

In the same round the team known as When Doves Cry scored 17 points of their own, only missing out Snap!, Rhythm is a Dancer and Virtual Insanity in the end...

As former players at the Carleton Grange Pub, they were particularly pleased to see Quizmaster Pete Marshall, accompanied by new QM Sam, on stage; the former up to his usual antics, such as his vivid mid-Quizmaster Cup description (to all 138 players) of "dogging," among many other things...

We believe, at his precise point in the history of the universe, that Sam is trying to get his head around Pete's explicit description of the famous British past time mentioned earlier.

The Minute of Music Madness Round was followed by the first "Drink While You Think," in which team's sent their best trivial chugger to compete for the 8 cases of beers...

And the chugging commenced in all four brackets at various points throughout the afternoon, with the four finalists competing in the final at 4 p.m.

And yes, the female player from that bracket progressed, after the two blokes that finished their drinks first also answered the trivia question incorrectly...

"Here are the bloody rules fellas..."

"This straw tastes funny!"

"For the best results please cup your left boob while drinking..."

And although only one drinker got to take home the cases of beer, all that participated got a fab Feer the Beer t-shirt for their efforts...

And then this slapper (the official QM photographer) was roaming around, trying to get her mug in every shot...

Nice t-shirt ho!

She was also participating with two teams, firstly Team Team...

And the Firefoxes...

Although neither team did very well!! Guess we know who the weak link is!

The quiz continued with the familiar verbal pen-and-paper type of questions, but Quizmaster had a surprise in store for all players: in the form of the caption contest.

Teams simply had to fill in the captions below, with the winners awarded a Super Mario Chess Set and Star Trek Monopoly set, courtesy of our friends at ThinkGeek...

And before moving on to the next round, the QMs saluted the Quizmaster faithful with a customary social at the cup...

Elsewhere, the game continued as another, fantastic video round ensued, this time in the form of the TV Mix-Up Round, which resembled the music madness round, but exchanged songs with TV shows.

And while all enjoyed that round, The Titanic Swim Team scored well, despite not knowing who Bananaman was?...

We're guessing they didn't see Quizmaster Ryan's Halloween costume this year then, eh?

In other news, Squad 666 competed valiantly in the Drink While You Think (chugging trivia) round, but just missed out on the top prize (8 cases of beer)...

Although they were offered a consolation case of beer for their valiant effort in the Final Four!

Speaking of prizes, The Spice Girls (via G-Town) took the Box of Britishness, for being the best dressed team on the day, and were particularly pleased that Spotted Dick was included...

Showing a bit too much skin! Scary is probably an understatement! :)

In other news, despite Pete's supposed popularity among the drunken mob, it was Quizmaster Sam that had a team actually named for him...

Yeah, that was Sam's Club representing the 5th Ward Pub.

Speaking of fifth, it was the east-side's Ranga Rumblers, who exchanged some friendly banter with QM Tink as usual, that finished 5th in the final standings, with a very notable score of 127 points...

And the unofficial best team name prize went to I Teabagged Nancy Pelosi Last Week While Gently Stroking Ron Johnson, who were enjoying the drink aspect of the game just as much as the think one...

And Quizmaster Cup III champions, Miltown Junks, were in full-force on the day, although the questions didn't quite suit them as well this time, settling for eighth place in the end...

One of the Ale House's longest-serving Monday night quiz teams. Thanks again for coming guys!

And elsewhere, it was the Hammers Are Wanks, also an Ale House team (Grafton chapter), who were one point below the previous team, and despite the slightly distasteful Blackburn Rovers shirt, they got both soccer questions (Roma, and the video clip) correct...

Tally ho, gents!

And although confirming via Twitter that fun was had by all of DJ Easy E's uniformly-dressed members, these gals and guys were toward the bottom of the pack...

If it weren't for those damn Spice Girls, the B.o.B (Box of Britishness) would have been yours!

DJ Easy E were paying particular homage to Quizmaster Kevin B (specifically in the caption contest), despite his lack of citrus-flavored gum...

In other news, Dead Babies Will Save Michael J Fox won some Milwaukee Admirals tickets, as they recorded the highest score in the lightning round (that's seems fitting, right?)...

And it was the one man show of Able Was I, Ere I Saw Idris Elba (at least that's what we think it said - the handwriting was obviously under the influence of a few beers) that rounded off the 21 teams on the day...

Although he was obviously un-phased by all the fancy lights and cameras!

And so, with the majority of the quiz done and dusted, only one round remained, with the Final MASSIVE Video Round contributing 28 of the 159 point total...

Most teams seemed to do quite well in this category, despite only seeing the video once (QM rules, people!). Here are the answers again...

And so that left us with the top three; the gold, silver and bronze medalists. It was, as always expected, a hotly contested affair at the top.

Ultimately, Quizmaster Cup I winners, The Fancy Restaurants, who were perhaps the hands-on favorite to take another championship on the night, finished in a very commendable third place, taking the bronze medals...

Although, as their expressions probably reflect, they were aiming for something better!

That meant with only two teams remaining that it was going to be close, and it turned out to be so close in fact that we had a tie for first place!

Yes, from a possible 159 massive points, two teams tied on 136!

And there were some concerns from competing teams that the two at the top, Coitus Interuptus and Fuckin' Wolverine - two strong teams hailing from their regular spot at the Milwaukee Brat House - were conspiring on some answers. However, the QMs saw no foul play during the game, and any supposed cheating was disregarded once we saw their answers sheets (they both had different answers right and wrong!?!)

Anyhow, as the only fair way to determine a tie, the QM asked a sudden death question to determine the Quizmaster Cup IV champs!!!....

Containing 93 commas and 51 semicolons, how many words were in the longest sentence in the Victor Hugo novel Les Miserables?

So the two teams got together amongst themselves to determine their answer with only 30 seconds to spare...

"Wow. This Arsenal shirt is really itching my nipples..."

"Is that bitch taking our picture again?"

Coitus Interuptus, second place at Quizmaster Cup III, answered with 350, meaning they settled for their second straight runners-up finish at the Cup....

Which meant that Fuckin' Wolverine's answer of 1,200 was closer (the correct answer was 823), which was enough to seal their first Quizmaster Cup*...

But in good spirits, the two teams combined for a sing-song to end the afternoon's nothing-short-of-absolutely-massive event...

All the Quizmasters, particularly Quizmaster founder Ryan Wickens, would like to thank all those that came out on the day. We hope everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event, and to keep in mind that Quizmaster Cup V is already in the works. It will be coming back to the Ale House this spring time.

The assassin of President Lincoln, he was
tracked down and shot in Virginia 12 days later

John Wilkes Booth (May 10, 1838– April 26, 1865) was an American stage actor who assassinated President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre, in Washington, D.C., on April 14, 1865. Booth was a member of the prominent 19th century Booth theatrical family from Maryland and, by the 1860s, was a well known actor. He was also a Confederate sympathizer vehement in his denunciation of the Lincoln Administration and outraged by the South's defeat in the American Civil War. He strongly opposed the abolition of slavery in the United States and Lincoln's proposal to extend voting rights to recently emancipated slaves.

Booth and a group of co-conspirators planned to kill Lincoln, Vice President Andrew Johnson, and Secretary of State William Seward in a bid to help the Confederacy's cause. Although Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia had surrendered four days earlier, Booth believed the war was not yet over because Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston's army was still fighting the Union Army. Of the conspirators, only Booth was completely successful in carrying out his part of the plot. Seward was wounded but recovered; Lincoln died the next morning from a single gunshot wound to the back of the head – altering the course of American history in the aftermath of the Civil War.

Following the shooting, Booth fled on horseback to southern Maryland. He eventually made his way to a farm in rural northern Virginia; he was tracked down and shot by Union soldiers 12 days later. Eight others were tried and convicted, and four were hanged shortly thereafter. Over the years, various authors have suggested that Booth might have escaped his pursuers and subsequently died many years later under a pseudonym.

Huge Oak Chest Vs Big Ass Titties... (Quizmaster Cup This Sunday)

Firstly, a final reminder that Quizmaster Cup IV is this Sunday November 14th...

Ten teams turned up at Trinity to battle it out for the evening's quiz prizes this Tuesday night.

A stellar performance from the Anal Bum Covers saw them take 1st place, beating the next closest team by a comfortable 3 points in the end.

The fight for second place was fiercely contested; the next eight teams were separated by just 4 points. Team Team, who seem to be peaking in form at just the right time ahead of Sunday's big event, eventually beat out Fuck em Bucky in the sudden death question to claim the 2nd prize bar tab.

And it was a night of pub quiz tittays on the evening, as the picture sheet featured some delightful celebrity ta-tas....

Yes, there was something for both sexes at Trinity this week! Teams simply had to guess who the brestesses belonged too....

Of course, it was Arnie and Kendra Wilkinson.

There was one other team that was playing for bragging rights on the night, since they had to split into 2 teams to stay under the 8 team limit.

Although there was a massive amount of shit-talking, the two teams: Dead in the Water and We can't get over the boobs on the front page will have to wait till next week to settle the score on which team is the best, as they deadlocked on 36 points.

Quizmaster would like to give a big shout out to the two-person team Wayne the "Main Brain" McLain whose continued efforts saw them achieve 23 points on the night - their drinking pace never slowed though!

J. Robert Oppenheimer
The Father of the Atomic Bomb

J. Robert Oppenheimer (April 22, 1904 – February 18, 1967) was an American theoretical physicist and professor of physics at the University of California, Berkeley. He is best known for his role as the scientific director of the Manhattan Project, the World War II project that developed the first nuclear weapons, for which he is often referred to as the "father of the atomic bomb". In reference to the Trinity test in New Mexico, where the first atomic bomb was detonated, Oppenheimer famously recalled the Bhagavad Gita: "If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the mighty one." and "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."

After the war Oppenheimer was a chief advisor to the newly created United States Atomic Energy Commission and used that position to lobby for international control of nuclear power and to avert the nuclear arms race with the Soviet Union. After provoking the ire of many politicians with his outspoken political opinions during the Red Scare, he had his security clearance revoked in a much-publicized and politicized hearing in 1954. Though stripped of his direct political influence Oppenheimer continued to lecture, write, and work in physics. A decade later President John F. Kennedy awarded (and Lyndon B. Johnson presented) Oppenheimer the Enrico Fermi Award as a gesture of political rehabilitation.

Team Team FTW! (Quizmaster Cup Coming Nov. 14th!!)

Firstly, just a photographic reminder that Quizmaster Cup IV is returning on Sunday November 14th...

It was a well fought battle of trivia this Tuesday night quiz with nine teams participating at Trinity.

It was the unlikely group known as Team Team, however, who eventually emerged victorious with a great score of 45 points....

Apparently the "bitches" that were missing last week made the difference and catapulted the team to the $50 bar tab.

Fuck em Bucky once again turned up in numbers and appeared more comfortable with the regular quiz format (as opposed to last week's Halloween-themed game); finishing with 43 points and second place on the night.

Quizmaster was happy to welcome back Ed Sedar moves to Houston; we're still here. It was apparent that a few tears had been shed, but the team put that behind them and scored a very commendable 39 points....

And the unofficial best name on the night went to Mike Hunts one hairy son of a bitch, who were playing word games with the QM....

In addition, Quizmaster was informed that Rusty Sanchez and the Dirty Trombones were going to be playing short handed. However, they eventually turned up with a small army that had to be broken into two teams!!

I Have A Dream

"I Have a Dream" is a seventeen minute public speech by Martin Luther King, Jr., in which he called for racial equality and an end to discrimination. King's delivery of the speech on August 28, 1963, from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, was a defining moment of the American Civil Rights Movement. Delivered to over 200,000 civil rights supporters, the speech was ranked the top American speech of the 20th century by a 1999 poll of scholars of public address. According to U.S. Representative John Lewis, who also spoke that day as the President of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee, "Dr. King had the power, the ability, and the capacity to transform those steps on the Lincoln Memorial into a monumental area that will forever be recognized. By speaking the way he did, he educated, he inspired, he informed not just the people there, but people throughout America and unborn generations."

At the end of the speech, King departed from his prepared text for a partly improvised peroration on the theme of "I have a dream", possibly prompted by Mahalia Jackson's cry, "Tell them about the dream, Martin!" He had delivered a speech incorporating some of the same sections in Detroit in June 1963, when he marched on Woodward Avenue with Walter Reuther and the Reverend C. L. Franklin, and had rehearsed other parts.

League Kicks Off With a Festive Halloween Quiz!

The quiz had a different feel last night with Halloween lurking round the corner. All of the categories were exchanged and replaced with ghoulish rounds. Two teams appeared to adapt the best as Rusty Sanchez and the dirty trombones and double breasted matress thrashers/sports emerged out of the group to claim the $50 and $25 bar tab respectively.

Team team decided to bring attention to the fact that they were not accompanied by their regular ladies... team team without the bitches!..and can be seen below enjoying a cheeky cocktail....

The Persistence of Memory (Spanish: La persistencia de la memoria; Catalan: La persistència de la memòria) is a 1931 painting by artist Salvador Dalí, and is one of his most recognizable works. The painting has been in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City since 1934. It is very widely recognized, and is frequently referenced in popular culture.

The well-known surrealist piece introduced the image of the soft melting pocket watch. It epitomizes Dalí's theory of "softness" and "hardness", which was central to his thinking at the time. As Dawn Ades wrote, "The soft watches are an unconscious symbol of the relativity of space and time, a Surrealist meditation on the collapse of our notions of a fixed cosmic order". This interpretation suggests that Dalí was incorporating an understanding of the world introduced by Albert Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity.

Although fundamentally part of Dalí's Freudian phase, the imagery precedes his transition to his scientific phase by fourteen years, which occurred after an atomic bomb was dropped in 1945.

Rocking the League Finale! New League Starts Next Tuesday 26th

Everything was to play for on the championship night at Trinity Three Irish Pubs this Tuesday, as the bar's current trivia league came to a conclusion.

Going into proceedings the top two teams (Trebek and Rusty Sanchez) were separated by just one point. However, it was The Dollar Burger Rockstars (below) and Team Team that took top honors on the night game...

Rusty Sanchez has made the decision to study simple multiplication for the next league, since it cost them another championship (3 different answers for 15x15 and yet not one of them correct)....Dam you scrabble board.

All in all, it was a very close league, which produced a worthy team of winners, in the form of Trebek (who, according to the league table, has hairy balls)....

Surely, after securing their second league title, we will see them at Quizmaster Cup, Milwaukee's ultimate bi-annual trivia contest, next month?

Hera was the wife and one of three sisters of Zeus in the Olympian pantheon of classical Greek Mythology. Her chief function was as the goddess of women and marriage. In Roman mythology, Juno was the equivalent mythical character. The cow, and later, the peacock were sacred to her. Hera's mother was Rhea and her father, Cronus.

Portrayed as majestic and solemn, often enthroned, and crowned with the polos (a high cylindrical crown worn by several of the Great Goddesses), Hera may bear a pomegranate in her hand, emblem of fertile blood and death and a substitute for the narcotic capsule of the opium poppy. A scholar of Greek mythology Walter Burkert writes in Greek Religion, "Nevertheless, there are memories of an earlier aniconic representation, as a pillar in Argos and as a plank in Samos."

Hera was known for her jealous and vengeful nature, most notably against Zeus's lovers and offspring, but also against mortals who crossed her, such as Pelias. Paris offended her by choosing Aphrodite as the most beautiful goddess, earning Hera's hatred.

Team Team to the Death! League Final Next Week!

It was back to quizness again at Trinity this Tuesday night in downtown Milwaukee. With the bar's trivia league final next Tuesday, the night's game had even more bearing on the outcome on the league champion.

However, league contenders Trebek Say When in Doubt Put Taft were absent on the night, paving the way for Rusty Sanchez to extend its lead in the table. But it was a tricky quiz, and with teams have their byes subtracted the latter team has a single-point lead in the table going into the final week.

But the absence of Trebek meant that two teams tied in second place! A sudden death round ensued, and Team Team, who are usually not contenders for prizes, found themselves in the hunt for a bar tab.

Unfortunately, they were up against Fuck Em Bucky (below) who came out on top in the end to secure a $25 prize....

League finale next Tuesday!

Christopher Columbus (c. 31 October 1451 – 20 May 1506) was a navigator, colonizer, and explorer from the Republic of Genoa, in northwestern Italy, whose voyages across the Atlantic Ocean led to general European awareness of the American continents in the Western Hemisphere. With his four voyages of exploration and several attempts at establishing a settlement on the island of Hispaniola, all funded by Isabella I of Castile, he initiated the process of Spanish colonization which foreshadowed general European colonization of the "New World".

Although not the first to reach the Americas from Europe—he was preceded by at least one other group, the Norse, led by Leif Ericson, who built a temporary settlement 500 years earlier at L'Anse aux Meadows— Columbus initiated widespread contact between Europeans and indigenous Americans.

Columbus's initial 1492 voyage came at a critical time of emerging modern western imperialism and economic competition between developing kingdoms seeking wealth from the establishment of trade routes and colonies. In this sociopolitical climate, Columbus's far-fetched scheme won the attention of Isabella I of Castile. Severely underestimating the circumference of the Earth, he estimated that a westward route from Iberia to the Indies would be shorter than the overland trade route through Arabia. If true, this would allow Spain entry into the lucrative spice trade — heretofore commanded by the Arabs and Italians. Following his plotted course, he instead landed within the Bahamas Archipelago at a locale he named San Salvador. Mistaking the lands he encountered for Asia, he referred to the inhabitants as "indios" (Spanish for "Indians").

The anniversary of Columbus's 1492 landing in the Americas is usually observed as Columbus Day on 12 October in Spain and throughout the Americas, except Canada. In the United States it is observed annually on the second Monday in October.

Bolivia's administrative capital is the world's highest.
Sucre is the historical and constitutional capital.

Nuestra Señora de La Paz (Spanish: la ˈpas; English: Our Lady of Peace; Aymara: Chuquiago Marka or Chuqiyapu), is the administrative capital of Bolivia, as well as the departmental capital of La Paz Department, and the second largest city (in population) only after Santa Cruz de la Sierra.

It is located in the western part of the country on the department of the same name. It is located at an elevation of 3,660 meters above sea level, making it the world's highest "de facto" capital city, or administrative capital.

The official capital of Bolivia is Sucre and it is the seat of Justice, La Paz has more government departments, hence the "de facto" qualifier. The city seats in a "bowl" surrounded by the high mountains of the altiplano. As it grows, La Paz climbs the hills, resulting in varying elevations from 3,000 meters to 4,100 meters (9,840 ft to 13,450 ft). Overlooking the city is towering triple-peaked Illimani, which is always snow-covered and can be seen from several spots of the city, including from the neighbor city, El Alto.

As of the 2001 census, the city had a population of 877,363. La Paz Metropolitan area, formed by the cities of La Paz, El Alto and Viacha, make the most populous urban area of Bolivia, with a population of 2.3 million inhabitants and surpassing the metropolitan area of Santa Cruz de la Sierra.

League Hits Half Way Stage!

It was a fairly buzzin' night of pub quiz at Trinity this Tuesday night. Quizmaster Tink was out of town celebrating his 2_th birthday, so Quizmaster Kevin Hough stepped in for the evening.

And the usual suspects were once again contesting for the weekly prizes, with Rusty Sanchez and the Dirty Trombones (so the instruments return, eh?) were the night's winners, after triumphing in sudden death...

They defeated their main (yet friendly) rival in the shape and form of Trebek Says "If In Doubt Put Taft".....

They still took second place and a $25 bar tab however, while Team Team Bitches were once again wallowing in their mediocrity and providing a doodle for this blog (they've gotta do something to contribute to the meager thing they describe as their lives).....
